What is a Child Life Specialist?

Child Life Specialists are trained professionals who help children and their families understand the hospital environment and minimize the anxiety associated with it through education, therapeutic intervention, and play.

When does the magazine come out?

Always in the middle weeks of  March (spring), June (summer), September (fall) and December (winter).

Are job and internship postings really free?

Yes! Free to look at and free to post. Have a job/internship we’re missing? Email us the details of your posting (LSQuarterly@gmail.com) and we’ll make sure it gets posted immediately! We don’t believe in exclusivity at LSQ. If you want to work in child life and have earned the education/experience to do so, you have a right to information that can help create your future, without paying extra for it. Let’s make this field grow by opening it up to everyone!

Can I get a free copy of the magazine?

We offer one free copy if you send us your hospital or college’s mailing address. To order a single copy of our latest issue, visit here. If you decide to subscribe, your subscription will begin with the copy sent to you. We are always excited to have new readers on board!

What are some ways I can contribute?

LSQ now offers a LinkedIn  endorsement if you contribute an idea/article! Endorsements are the modern day letter of recommendations. In this tough economy, everyone needs an edge! LSQ is ready to give you ours!

We have an rolling deadline to send in short stories regarding your child life experiences (500 words or less). You may also mail us a postcard saying hello to LSQ or the child life field (mail to: 1107 N. Paulina #2R, Chicago, IL 60622). We always accept photos of your CL program (please do not include patients), poems, artwork, and videos. For more information or to submit the aforementioned, email us at LSQuarterly@gmail.com.

Where do I find the “My Child Life Specialist” coloring sheets?

You can download for free here: Spanish or English. You are welcome to reproduce them as much as you like.

Can LSQ create customizable coloring sheets or animation videos for our hospital/program?

Yes! Send us your specifications and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. Coloring sheet creation is $1 a page. Contact us directly for video production LSQuarterly@gmail.com.

What if I am having trouble subscribing online?

If there is an issue with the link, try refreshing all screens or clearing your cache. If you are still having issues, write to us and let us know LSQuarterly@gmail.com. We will answer you immediately with a link that does work. You may also send a check to Light Spinner Quarterly 1107 N. Paulina Ave #2R, Chicago, IL.

How do I change my shipping address?

Either write your preferred shipping address in the comments section of PayPal, or send us an email letting us know where to ship your copy to LSQuarterly@gmail.com

My hospital wants to subscribe, what information do they need?

If your hospital is paying for a subscription, they likely want LSQ’s contact and Tax Payer ID. Please give their accounts payable/vendor department our email and we will arrange for a subscription through them.

How can I get my product/organization/service featured in LSQ?

It depends on our content needs, the relevancy of your item to the readers themselves, and the degree of objectivity you can provide. If you would like to have a full article with images featured in LSQ, this would likely be considered an advertorial. Please visit our advertising page for more information, or contact us directly at LSQuarterly@gmail.com to discuss the right fit for you.

Is the magazine online, or just print?

For now, our magazine is only in print. In 2012 we will introduce an online version of our magazine.

How do I submit my story, an intervention idea, or an article?

Send us an email (LSQuarterly@gmail.com) with your idea and we’ll be happy to accommodate you. Articles and ideas must be related to the field of child life or child life specialists. The inclusion of your article is based on the space inside our next issue and subject to editing.

Do you sponsor events or conferences?

Yes we do! Depending on availability of inventory and advanced notice, we would be happy to support your event, conference, in-service, presentation, etc!

How long has LSQ been around?

We released our first issue of LSQ at the Child Life Conference in Chicago, IL in May, 2011.

I ordered my magazine but didn’t get it. Where is it?

It isn’t unusual for magazines to get lost in the mail. If this happens, we will gladly replace your copy with a new one immediately. Shoot us an email (LSQuarterly@gmail.com) and let us know there has been a delay.

Can we reproduce an article or page found in the magazine?

It depends. We would love everyone to have access to the information found in LSQ, but the articles and artwork printed in the magazine are all copyrighted. Shoot us an email (LSQuarterly@gmail.com) and we’ll see how we can help. If you would like to display the PDF on your website, we can gladly accommodate this. For mass reproduction, permission and a minimal fee is required.

Can you come to speak to our school?

We’d love to! Shoot us an email and we’ll schedule a visit – complete with freebies!

What is the history of Light Spinner Quarterly Magazine?

Sarah Mendivel, with a Master’s Degree in Child Life,  founded Light Spinner Quarterly in October 2010. The world’s first child life magazine was distributed at the 2011 Child Life Conference in Chicago, IL. Child life specialists worldwide now contribute to and support Light Spinner Quarterly. Sarah Mendivel currently presides as LSQ’s editorial director.
